Clan Fleming People Sir Alexander Fleming (6 August 1881 – 11 March 1955) Alexander Fleming, born in Darvel, East Ayrshire, was a Scottish physician and microbiologist who won the Nobel Prize in 1945 for the discovery of the antibiotic substance penicillin in 1928.
