The family was resident in Ireland for some time, and appear to be descended from William Buchanan of Blairvockie. The Buchanans ofBlairvockie are cadets of Spittal via Walter Buchanan of Spittal.Walter Buchanan of Spittal was brother german to George Buchanan of that Ilk, who married Elizabeth Preston and was father to John Buchanan last laird of Buchanan. Members of the family went to Canada, and A.W.P. Buchanan author of the Buchanan Book is connected to the family.The arms are recorded in Lyon Register Volume 30 – Page 24 – 3 March 1932
