Earl of Dundee Coat of Arms

Personal arms of Viscount Dudhope, and Earl of Dundee, created 15 Nov. 1641

on the roadside wall of Benvie kirkyard. Arms of James Scrymgeour, 2nd viscount of Dudhope (a lion rampant wielding a scimitar) impaled with those of his spouse, Lady Isabella Kerr (or Carr), daughter of Sir Robert Kerr of Cessford, 1st earl of Roxburghe (on a chevron, three mullets, and a unicorn’s head erased in base). Initials to dexter: IVD; to sinister, ILC. Date: 1643, which was the year of James’s succession to the title. (The metal plaque above is inaccurate.)
