Seton House, East Lothian. 18th C Robert Adam Mansion. Guilt on the site of an earlier castle and large palace

Fyvie Castle, Aberdeenshire. Passed to the Setons in 1596 but forfeited after the Jacobite rising in 1690.

Seton People

George Seton (d.1583)

George Seton helped Mary, Queen of Scots escape after the murder of David Rizzio, and again from her imprisonment in Loch Leven Castle. A famous portrait of him hangs in the Scottish National Portrait Gallery. His wife, Mary, was commemorated in song as one of the Queen’s “Four Marys”.

Lord Pitmedden (1639-1719)
A famous Scottish judge and member of the Seton family with a taste for the macabre. He contributed a “Treatise of Mutilation and Demembration and Their Punishments” to the 1699 edition of “Laws and Customs”.
